I have an opportunity to buy these coins for $200 because the guy selling them needs the money. I don't collect ancients but don't want to pass up a good deal. I would appreciate any help in determining the value, thanks.
That's all I have for now, the guy is supposed to send better pics later and I'll post as soon as I get them.
Well that's better, but I can still only give a one-sided opinion. Coin 1 is a common and worn, no more that $10, assuming the obverse is no better. Coin 2 is overcleaned - even if it has a good bust, I wouldn't buy it at all, but if I had to buy it at gunpoint, $10. Coin 3 is ok for the type, again assuming the other side is comparable. These Second Jewish War types are popular, but detail is everything. Maybe $20. No opinion on coin 4 - drachms of Alex III are extensively counterfeited. I would not venture a guess without a very high resolution image of both sides, comparing it to known forgeries - I just returned a Lampsakos fake a few weeks ago myself.
I see 8 coins @ $25 each and, at best, two that could sell over that amount assuming the other side is good and the coin is genuine. Who will you sell them to that will pay more than you paid? I know nothing of the two moderns. Without seeing the other sides, I do not see this as a 'good' deal. If you have no interest in ancients, pass.
Coin 5 is nice - the reverse design is very busy for a small coin, Constantine rides a quadriga to heaven as the hand of God reaches down to greet him. If the detail is as good as the obverse, maybe in the $30-$40 range. Coin 6 is misattributed. No matter how I look at it, I don't see a Nabataean coin. I have no idea what coin 7 is other than a Levantine tetradrachm - no opinion.
In my opinion, the only coins worth buying in this lot are the Alex drachm, if it's authentic, and the Constantine memorial, and only if the reverses live up to the obverses.
I was just going to buy them because the guy needs money and I figured if they were worth it even though I don't collect them that I could help the guy out.
