Im not sure on the date but while going through the quarters, found this super thin quarter. It's exactly like any other quarter except it is extremely thin.

Seems like the brown orange parts are coming off ever since i placed it into a capsule like something is eating away the brown and leaving the silver part only. Any ideas?

Well my mother told me earlier she placed it in vinegar for 2 minutes two days ago and that it turned brown afterwards but was already thin and silver long time ago when her and my father found it.

Not an error, just acid. It's a 1960's quarter.

So I'm assuming that someone must have used acid and then double minted another eagle on the reverse? Also I see the date doubling starting at the one where the silver is starting to show on the obverse. Any ideas?

One more question, if someone uses acid can they perfectly melt it down where the sides, obverse, and reverse are pretty well define because the reverse seems in very good condition.

No.. It should be the other way around.. what you are seeing is the core of the Quarter

No.. As Benny Hill once said "don't ever assume"

Get out your Red Book and look up Quarters. If you did a little research first you would know the first minting of Washington Quarters was in 1932. Acid Bath.

The questionable coin has practically no rim. No acid attack could do that so neatly.

The Quarter is from 1966.. the rim could of worn down over the years. This coin could of been acid dipped last year.. that's what it is and nothing else

It's a 1966 and I really have no idea what might or might not have happened to it and simply will not speculate on what occurred.

I'd recommend sending the coin to CONECA for a professional evaluation instead of attempting to beat back the unprofessional speculation being bantered about.

Wow.. you just hurt my feelings.. but good idea.. problem is that when they are told it's nothing but PMD we will never ever hear about the coin in question again.

Hopefully your feeling won't hurt for long but exactly what is the problem with not knowing the outcome??

The person asked a question. Whether its here, some other coin forum, Timbuktu, or CONECA, they just need an answer.

If you never hear from them again, then you'll know it was for sure PMD. What type is immaterial. If its a missing clad layer(s), you can bet your bippee they'll be back.

It's best to get a professional opinion instead of getting into a dissenting discussion.

    Right?

Thank you for all the responses. Okay I'll be sending in all the coins as a means of just figuring out if any of these are real or not, who grades the coin the fastest? And trust me, I dont get my feelings hurt that easily lol. Whether its real or not, is what I would like to know.

Can relate (just got to no) a famous quote in the Clint Eastwood movie just after the one (you feel lucky) if it was me instead of wasting all that time, do some experimenting on some old quarters you have lying around a lot less hassle if you asked me but it's only my opinion. detective.gif
