5X eBay Bucks Promotion -or- (Expletive Deleted) at the Top of My Lungs

@jester3681, I feel your pain. I once even activated the coupon, bought an item, and then only noticed the coupon didn't begin until 9 a.m. PST! Needless to say, I didn't get the extra bucks, BUT I've not made that same mistake again.

IMO, the coupons are quite easy. You get an e-mail, within the e-mail, there's a link you click on to activate it. While they might be able to improve upon it like someone suggested earlier, by having a pop-up reminding you of the extra bucks deal, it's really not that difficult to use. You just need to read.

I'd rather just blame eBay since it's easy.

It's my fault, just frustrating. But I woke up this morning, so it can't be all bad!

 

I've done this too. Missed out on an extra $40!

 

I have two accounts, one I use frequently to buy and sell, and another that just sits around getting very little use.
Guess which one gets the 5X promotions.
It's not random.

 

You get a 3rd tier of customer service once your store reaches anchor level, basically supervisors of the powerseller customer service.
The last time I called in to ask that exact question, she said ALL ACCOUNTS get this offer when it's issued. So....
Also she was able to reverse a decision to drop my TRS status which occurred when my refund rate passed 0.5%. This is something a lower level customer service cannot execute, and I don't think a person at that position in their company would lie about structure of their promotion programs

 

...it appears that even third-tier CS reps don't get accurate information on these promotions. Or perhaps she misunderstood some part of your question. Or perhaps they've been instructed to give a response that isn't entirely accurate.

Look, I know about random processes and distributions, and I know it's possible that some of us are just having runs of bad luck. But the probability of a run like I've seen, or even more so a run like @jwitten has seen, is really tiny. The probability of getting bad info from a CSR is much higher, IMHO.

 

I can promise you not all accounts get the same offers. Ebay representatives probably know less about ebay than most sellers here.

 

Another word of warning on a related topic - an eBay COUPON is not the same as eBay BUCKS. I got a $50 coupon for selling four items within one week - good deal, since there was no minimum dollar volume of sales required. I foolishly assumed it worked like bucks - use a little here, use a little there, until used up. No, it is a one time use - I almost used it on a $5 purchase, which would have blown $45. Lucky I used it on a $40 purchase, so only lost $10 of the coupon value. [I would have only lost $3 if they had allowed the use of the coupon to pay postage - something you can of course do with bucks - but the coupon was not even allowed to be used for my $7 postage for that $40 purchase.]

 

That was the deal that I didn't see until it had expired. If it's "up to" $50 off one purchase, yeah, that's pretty weak. I still wish I'd caught it, though.

 

Let's all remember that you have to enroll in the ebay bucks program in order to get 1x and the random 5x promotions. And these 5x promotions have a very short window of around 2 days.

Many ebay buyers have never enrolled in the ebay bucks program and if you don't join you are missing out.

 

All of my accounts are enrolled, and only one is currently getting offers.

 

I've bought 2 things in the last 3 years and I still don't get them anymore

 

So uhm... I hate to say it, but I did activate it, and I'm gonna rub it in a bit, because the timing was perfect. I picked up a very high grade coin with CAC for an awesome price - and 10% bonus. It's the first time I've splurged for a green bean.

I'm waiting until I have coin in hand, but the stars aligned for me. Once it's in hand, I'll post details and pictures.
