I attended a show a couple of months back and dropped off three coins to be slabbed. The Texas Commemorative I wanted slabbed to preserve and because I could not grade myself.. The Trade Dollar to authenticate, and the Half Dollar because it's one of my favorite coins. I took advantage of the lower pricing and because I don't enjoy PCGS or NGC privileges.

One of the coins came back 8 grades higher than I expected.
One came back at the grade I expected but "details" cleaned, which I didn't expect
One came back with the grade i expected but without a "details" rim, that I did expect.

How do you think ANACS graded the coins and How do you think PCGS or NGC would have graded?

I'm guessing the Texas Comem. came back much higher than you expected, maybe MS-64 or so. The 1837 Half came back XF details "Cleaned" and the Trade Dollar came back VF35.

I'll guess your 1837 graded AU53. And you expected EF45.

How much does ANACS charge you per each coin at the coin shows. I assume they offer a special discount at coin shows.

Texas came back higher, the trade avoided the details and the Bustie got hit with cleaned.

For them Ill guess they went 40, 63, 50

    Closest guess
Trade EF40 with no detail for the rim
    Texas MS65 !!
Bust EF40 cleaned ( I still don't see it) but several of you do.

Would the top two have given the Texas that high of a grade? I was guessing AU

I suspect you got lucky. My impression -It does look like pretty weak strike and a little high point rub. It does look to have nice luster though.

$15 per coin, but no 5 coin minimum. Plus shipping.

I don't agree with it, I have just seen them slab a lot of coins with the cleaned label that look like that for whatever reason

If it got a MS grade 64 would more than likely be its max. 62-64 there isn't really a price difference so could fall anywhere in there

I agree with the Trade Dollar. Not even close with the Texas. And, I think the Bust is XF45.. and from the picture I would not call it cleaned.
Just a quick check of eBay reveals ANACS is all over the place with their Texas grades. Some 63's look better.

    My guesses would have been:
    20 shot 25
    64 - strike
40 - it has the meat of a nicer coin, but seemingly no luster. I would expect some luster given the level of preservation. It is also possibly that the coin was dipped out long ago or that it was cleaned.
