That's not ugly, this is... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1795-Flowin...177785?hash=item43e98d90b9:g:3rYAAOSwWTRWujpj
Even though that toning is not the most attractive, I think you owe that Franklin an apology for including it with that thread title lol. I actually like the look of the obverse personally
The only thing I don't like about it is that blotchy patch at the left obverse. I like that type of toning too. Judging what I can buy coins that look like this for - not everyone agrees with me.
Yes. That is classic mint set toning for a 56. I don't think it is ugly. The obverse is actually attractive, in my opinion (the reverse less so, but in hand, if the luster is strong, it probably isn't so bad). This coin also has the advantage of being DDO-002 (very common, a large percentage of the coins from mint sets are, but still cool).
Looks like there's hope for this Franklin. I know some folks like these, I'm still trying to figure it out. Honest mint set toning, but not easy on my eye.
I don't wish to sound snide - in view of a certain other CT thread - but light that thing axially and watch it burst into neon glory. I'd own it, if only to use as an example of the point.
