@Ancientnoob and I decided to do a trade. I traded an 1895 $10 Gold Liberty graded MS60 in an old green holder for his Attica Owl coin. There might have been a little cash one way or another as well, so it wasn't an exact coin for coin trade. I mainly focus on US Gold, and he likes ancients, so it was an interesting deal. Mine arrived today, and I love it! This is the thickest coin I own. It almost looks like a sphere it is so thick! I decided to line her up with my other owls for a parliament photo op! Enjoy!
IMHO, you got the better end of the deal, but then I don't collect Modern coins. You have a nice set of owls going there.
It's a fatty, for sure! Curious... who slabbed the coin, you or Noob? https://www.cointalk.com/threads/sh...of-dem-other-birds.222411/page-6#post-1636478
With both coins being so different, and both collectors really focusing on different coins, it was hard to really know who was getting the best deal. Hopefully he will be happy with the $10 gold. There is something cool about holding a nice gold coin, and it was hard for me to give it up, lol. I do love this coin though.
I recall seeing an owl and thinking it looked a little like someone struck a design on a silver nugget. You've got a great little collection of owls going there! I love the strike and die axis on the latest. 5 more and you can hold a session of the Supreme Court.
Congrats on scoring another sweet owl, jwitten (all four of 'em look pretty sweet) => hmmm, sounds like we have a fox in the ol' hen-house, eh?
Well, if I understand the motivations of the parties involved, the slabbing was probably at @jwitten's insistence. Am I right?
Noob, back when it was fashionable. Noob doesnt like slabs but will slab on occasion. Neato fat boy holder. In God we trust all others must pay cash. PCGS says mintage is 567,770 of which PCGS says 10,125 survive in MS60 or better. They rate it R2.9 "Scarce"
That's a great looking coin for an MS60. Usually I expect MS60 to be "BU" (Butt Ugly). This one is not. I think you both won.
From what @jwitten tells me its in an earlier green holder, I like the contrast makes the coin stand out.
I mainly collect $2 1/2, so do not know how to grade these $10 as well, but it is in an older holder, which I love the looks of with gold.
i think it looks great, i LOVE fat coins...and that is FAT. AN, r u feeling ok? letting that sweet tet go?? sweet tet family picture there as well jwitten!
The Noobster may be a fox in the henhouse, but I think he needs to be taken behind the woodshed for the slabbing incident... However, I am a BIG modern gold fan, so in my eyes @Ancientnoob redeemed himself. Unfortunately, I have no ancient gold, though... Soon... Very soon...
