I try to keep my favorites in the realm of something I might be able to buy.

 

My choice is the Grant commemorative of 1922. This coin exemplifies his humble beginnings in the back and portrays his accomplishments in the front. He was a dominate force to be reckon with. Most of the other commemorative of places and events don't mean as much to me. I mean like get a travel brochure and visit them and keep them in your mind's eye.

 

Huh? The Pan Pac half, while not cheap, isn't even close to the most expensive classic commemorative half.

My votes are:

1) Oregon Trail
2) Bay Bridge
3) San Diego
4) Pan Pac
5) Hawaiian

 

1892 Columbian, it was one of the first coins I received.

 

I want to say Maryland for my #1 as well because I was born and raised here but it's just such an ugly portrait of Calvert. Regardless I have been looking for a nice one.

 

Regardless our state flag and shield is the best bar none!
I chose Maryland first as I am proud of my states history and being one of the first states. I have traveled across this country sea to sea north to south. A many nice places I've visited here and over seas. There's no place like home!
This is place where you can travel 20 miles from center and be entertained by history. When I was a kid Maryland was known as" America in miniature."
The state has so much to offer....and has given our nation our National Anthem .
Yeah you may say I'm a tad bit proud ,no less than any other who calls home ......home!

 

My favorites are the three California ones, Diamond Jubilee, San Diego, and San Francisco Bay Bridge.

 

Classic commemorative gold is a whole new ball game.

The Pan Pac half is also a California coin; the event took place in San Francisco.

 

I have two - my favorite is the 1920 Maine - because of the designer - Anthony de Francisci. And that's for my affection for Peace Dollars. I have one in MS64 and paid dearly for it. It heads the box I have my registry set in.

The other is the 1892, and I found it in a "bargain bin" for $10 at a coin show. I believe it's been cleaned, but it is an MS details quality coin.

 

Oregon Trail because of its great designs. Here's my best example, a PCGS MS-65.

 

Maryland is very nice, but in most areas there, I had the feeling someone was looking over my shoulder. Maryland seemed overpopulated to me.

 

For me definitely Battle of Antietam

 

So many of the designs are very week. My favorite is the 1925 Stone Mountain.
You can locate many fine examples at reasonable prices.

Check out the counterstamped ones sometime. They're stamped with a state name and a number as part of a promotion conducted at the time by (IIRC) the Daughters of the Confederacy. They come with stamps for every state in the Confederacy. Such a great deal of history behind those coins!

 

No matter which is your favorite all silver commens are very cheap now. I have been buying a few lately. I also have some that I am buried in from 20 yrs ago.

 

Just need a 'bama 2x2 real cheap.......

I think these all have artistry and history going for them.
