Nope. Not an error. Looks like it got a bit smooshed by something over the last 117 years.

BTW, a 1909 over 7 seems like an impossibility since they weren't minted in 1907.

It took a hard glancing hit from the northwest (if you orient the coin to read normally). Metal was pushed down and to the right, creating the higher portion you mention. It's a pretty common thing, which tends to surprise people because it's hard to imagine a coin taking an impact strong enough to move metal in that one small place. But it happens, and frequently.

  8. isn't it the general concept of an "error" to contradict what's seemingly possible?

  9. Thanks, man, I appreciate the explanation, respect.

Well, no, I don't think it is. First of all, I meant no disrespect. Second, if there is no way that an "error" can be explained, it can't be an error. Then it must be post mint damage of some kind. Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

So do the mods restore a post in a case like this here. I hate when people do this childish stuff with their op threads :(

Not worth getting worked up over. I wouldn't have bothered restoring it; more likely just a lock. Restoring it reeks of vindictiveness.
