I think he said that if you were being facetious about the luster on a coin from a very well worn die, then he was agreeing that it wasn't so. But if you were saying something you believed to be true, then he doesn't agree with you. He's using latin to sound smart.
I know, hence the smiley. When I went to high school in KY in my small hometown of 2,000 people, the only language offered in the school (other than English...and that WAS NOT considered a foreign language) was Latin and that was because the librarian wanted to teach it. I actually enjoyed it.
Well, it's been over 4 decades since I studied Latin, and while I was pretty good at it back then, I most certainly am not now - so I used a translator - and that's what it gave me. So while the grammar may or may not be correct, I think the gist of it certainly is.
