A set of Ikes in high grade is pushing the $100,000.00 figure. Just a pinch of what a high grade Morgan set will fetch. Junk Ikes in a dansco album are as cheap as a set of junk Kennedys! A nice set of Kennedys is also obtainable for about $10,000-15,000.

Where do you shop for Ikes?

Well so far, I,ve bought most on E-bay, but now I need a few more ms66 bus. strikes. I know and trust James Sego and have picked up many from him. Also at nearby shows. I,m looking for a few pf 70s at a fair price. They,re tough to locate and sought by many collectors. Also looking for a couple of ms69 silvers. Have several sets of 68s and 67s for investments. The 72 type 2 ms65 is another tough one as many have poor eye appeal. Clean, spot free, eye appealing coins are getting to be very scarce and are priced much higher than the average. On my limited budget, it,s a lifelong venture to complete a truly stunning set, but well worth the time.

    Here is my problem Ike.
I understand it is probably best with either acetone or ammonia.
But, which one would be best? Old Lit Ike J.jpg

Why not try the ammonia first. If more work is needed, try the acetone.

I'd go the other way around. You know the acetone won't hurt the coin. If it doesn't help it then you have nothing to lose trying the ammonia.

Besides if I was going to use ammonia on it I would want to the do a good rinse with distilled water (ammonia is a base and you want to make sure all the traces are rinsed away.) And then I would use an acetone rise to dry the coin. So I might as well start off trying the acetone first because it would get the acetone anyway.

What is the date? Is it silver?

If you think a $100,000 / Set is one priced for a tight budget we need to talk :) I would hope, you could do much better.

Pardon my mistake, I meant that to be a highest grade set, in a reply to an Ike Hater,s comment.

    I have to agree.

But, I wish someone had bought some coins for me.
