The wife and I had a chance to take in Collectorama in Lakeland Florida yesterday. It's a small to mid-sized show that's held twice a year....February and October. Yesterdays show seemed well attended with maybe 50 to 75 dealers present. The offerings ranged from early US issues to Morgans (lots of Morgans) as well as bullion and moderns. Also a sprinkling of jewelry and rock hound folks. Those in attendance consisted mainly of senior citizens. Not a YN to be found. Angelina was in her glory as she found a few things that she really liked.......... I was proud of the gal. She talked the dealer down from $50 to $20. That's probably gonna hang in my office (bathroom).......... Here she is again with some rock hound guy. She wound up scoring some jade and a couple of onyx bookends for a very good price. Now for me........... Nothing. Nada, zilch, naught, zip, zippo, duck egg. There was one Booker in the whole show and I already had it in a better grade. A few commems, but I had all of them. Some nice moderns and bullion, but the stuff (I felt) was overpriced. There were a few well worn classic commems that I was tempted to buy, but passed on them. I did see a nice Philippine Murphy and Quezon commemorative Peso in (NGC) '64 but the dealer was asking $350 and not knowing much about them, I, in the end passed. Had he come down to $275 I might have bit. I wasn't willing to part with my cash for something I really don't collect. Better to save it for something that I do. All in all, a pleasant couple of hours spent with some really nice and friendly people and I will look forward to attending the show next year.
How did you get your wife to go to a coin show without rolling her eyes? I assume this has been photoshopped?... JK, but nothing for you? Seems amazing, but I went to the ANA WFOM last year and didn't pick up anything until day two. It was a pretty disappointing trip on the collecting side, but I got a chance to pick the brain of some of the top numismatists in the world for a bit, so it was a good education if nothing else.
She bought that Jefferson to remind you How Much You have Nickeled Away over the years. Or maybe she thinks the antique looking parchment is worth more!
You're a lucky man Ken , to have a pretty wife that will go to coin shows with you . She must be one heck of a lady .

Shoot Kirk, I nearly got thrown out of the show after the second picture. They had signs all over the place restricting cameras, but I never saw them, till 'security' came up and tapped me on the shoulder.
Really? Never heard of such a rule at a show. I wonder why? If you would have had your bag on nobody could have identified you.
You guys need to let me know when there is a show coming up in need of YNs. Just PM me and I'll be on the next flight out (provided travel expenses have been paid ).

I went each of three days...traffic was pretty solid on Friday and Saturday...much quieter on Sunday...sold a group of conders, Civil war tokens, a couple of masonics and some unofficial farthings...the civil war token expert from ebay had a table, and provided a real education while discussing the market(s), token in general...bought an 1100 token collection beautifully organized by state in a series of eight binders..be busy sorting that out.. Prices were tight, dealers ready to negotiate, but they all seemed ok with the results of the show..while traffic was solid, there was time to spend some time talking with dealers...who were friendly and informative.. Lots of nice coins, heavy to dollars.. Nice setting, promoter furnished free parking which saved $8 per day... the convention center apparently hosts a dance competition virtually every week-end but this one was really pretty well-attended so the parking lot was full.. Randy Campbell, the head grader for IGC was there each day...personable, generous with his time and astounding knowledge..Skip Fazzari, the counterfeit expert was in Ocala, and one or both will be at Sarasota this week-end.. And, yes, virtually no one under 65 there...
