Next year will be 2017. Might not seem significant, right? Well, what if I told you that 2017 is the 100th anniversary of John F Kennedy's birth?

You think something special will be done with the half dollar? Or maybe a commemorative?

If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich. -JFK

What could be more special than sleeping on a sidewalk so you can buy a gold JFK half?

But yes I'm sure they'll think of something to sell us. :)

If there is money to be made, the Mint will think of something.

    A bit off topic...

In 2017, I would MUCH rather see a series of WWI military medals -- commemorating U.S. involvement April 1917 - Nov 1918.

Finish the series with a Peace Dollar. And while I'm dreaming, make it like the original (90% Silver and 38.1 mm diameter).

I think for 1-3 years the US should make silvers dimes, quarters, & halves (in circulation) That would be awesome!

JFK circulating half dollar? No? Okay... :(

Maybe a dual-dated 1917-2017 Kennedy half struck on a 3/4 ounce platinum planchet, released at a major coin show before anywhere else. What could possibly go wrong?

I have a plan already in place for new type coins...

If it's a nice design struck in silver, then I'm in.

Extra points if it's made in the spirit and likeness of classic coins.

PRooF-69 slabbed would be nice, but slabbed is not necessary.

    Raws are nice, too.

OGP is probably going to be lack luster, so with or without that is fine.

All that would happen is that people would melt them down and the government would waste our money minting them.

Had they not done the special sets already I think the chance would have been much higher for something to happen but those tanked pretty badly. I would be on board for another set if it meant 2018 saw a new design on the half dollar and preferable (though I doubt it) a limited mintage of no more than 15k.

It would be odd because we already have the 1964-2014 gold halves. Another Kennedy coin? I don't know.

Hmm, I dunno. But my guess would be dealer hype manufacturing a situation of long lines and quasi riots culminating in a short lived crazy premium quickly followed by a rock hard market correction?... Kennedy coinage needs to die a quiet death imo

At the international show or Central States? I don't believe the ANA is there in 2017. (Come to think of it I don't know the CSNS is either.)

It was just a silly thought based on what happened in '14.
