No matter what is said, da bay is the topic of so many threads and posts. Of course, mostly negative. But, it is so big and universal that it is the place to often go. As you know, the research one can do on it is great. Sometimes the bargains, and sometimes the fakes. Buyer beware! What if we started talking more about the coins and less about the bay?
I could go for that. At the same time, da bay is a threat to the financial health of a lot of collectors, especially novices. I also would like to see more coin pictures posted. They don't have to be new acquisitions. There are various threads for all types of U.S. coinage and they can go idle for days or even weeks at a time.
I know, everyone want pix, and so do I. I haven't yet visited all the forums, but, I do have a pic. These were all made by the USM. I got the top two off da bay and the bottom one from a show. What forum do they fit in?
Well, until some other place appears that offers over three quarters of a million US coins at once in the same place, we're going to discuss Ebay.
I don't see how you can avoid it. If anything else, just for collectors to get ideas on what they can afford to buy, and the quality. With huge amounts of transactions happening, it's inevitable that great war stories will be passed on in the posts that follow. I only buy at shows but will still spend time on eBay researching.
I really don't get the hate, as it is. If you're getting scammed on Ebay, the problem is in the mirror. You didn't do appropriate due diligence. I've never had a single problem in 16 years, because I only move when I'm confident. Kinda like, you know, every other transaction I make from every online vendor. Then again, some folks buy used cars from Craigslist when they don't know a spark plug from an oil pan plug.
The hate should really just be on the selling side at this point, Ebay really couldn't tip the scales further in favor of buyers if they tried. Nice place to buy, bit of a minefield to sell.
I hear or read this alot. Never hear it from a seller who has had a brick and more store. That is truly where overhead and regulations are overwhelming. Ebay reported 162 million active accounts for the 4th quarter of 2015.
Yeah, this. I've never had a problem as a seller but luck has probably had as much to do with it as the quality of the images.
I like eBay and buy a lot of different items from this venue. I see it as the world's largest garage sale, although there are brand new items sold. It's a great place to buy things, but you should know what you're doing. Same as buying in a retail B&M.
They can actually be quite similar. Both are designed to provide an external leak point for oil on Chevy cars and trucks...
And there is a very active Ebay coin market in Europe, several countries like Italy and Germany have their own Ebay.
Fakes are really just more of a hassle than anything, the buyer gets refunded though. Shill bidding is what it is, it won't change the max you are willing to bid though. If you miss out on somethings because they shilled it to high that's their loss of a sale.
