I had a lady come into work tonight wanting a cheap pack of cigarettes that had 6 1943 d walking liberty half dollars I informed her of what she had and offer her $6 per coin for them, they were all worn circulated and nothing special about them and she wanted $15 per coin and when I told her that I was offering more than what they were worth she acted like she didn't believe me and said she'd hang onto them. I don't understand people, she was wanting to spend them on cigarettes and I was honest and she acted like I was trying to cheat her. :/ I guess she didn't want the cigarettes that bad lol
It's at times like that when it is worthwhile to have an internet option on your phone so you can show the person the current melt value of silver. Then explain to the person that each coin contains .36169 ounces of silver, and if he/she multiplies the two figures times the number of coins, they would get the current value. Then again, you could have just kept your mouth shut and sell her the cigarettes. Not that I would do that! Chris
I know right, I almost have got to the point to where I don't even bother offering anything for coins because of that possibility. My luck it would be stolen off papaw and he would find where she spent them then what would I do?
Most of them around here still wouldn't understand to most of them 2 plus 2 equals purple high standards of education around here lol
I was foolish enough to keep "puffin" on them until I had a stroke in '96,QUIT NOW PERIOD!!! Spare me the addiction excuses,I quit drinking/smoking that day so you can do it too.Breathing's much better for you and some really nice old coins are coming out of hiding for us to hoard/admire...
Swamp , I agree everyone should quit including me but this was about a customer not me. I would quit before i spent my coin collection. But not everyone has the will or want to stop so I don't say anything because no one will take advise from anyone they have to do it on their own.
Gee, maybe my card (posted before) might be appropriate again. You just can't convince some folks. Like my Dad always said there are some folks who are just like talking to a post. ==
After 55 years of heavy smoking, I quit cold turkey on September 26, 2014. I quit drinking, too, because I didn't want to be tempted to have another cigarette. I also quit drinking coffee because I liked to smoke while having a hot cup of joe. Geez, life is so boring, now! Chris
At least you can spend all the money you used to spend on smokes, booze, and coffee on coins instead.
Let me make sure I understand. She had $3 face value in coins, which she wanted to spend at face value. You offered her $36 for all of them. She got mad and demanded $90.
good job Chris it takes strong will power to go cold turkey on one thing but 3, sheesh I'd like to fully kick 1. I quit smoking 4 times in 25 years the longest was over a year but low and behold one bad day I picked them up again. I am going to attempt it again but this time I think I may actually be able to stop because the cigarettes actually disgust me now. I dont think I can do it cold turkey but I may try.
pretty much but she didnt really get mad she just apparently thought someone else would give her more. But yes she wanted more after trying to part with them for face value.
When you find out she didn't sell them for $15 per coin, offer her $3 per coin, half of your original offer.
Good for you! I never smoked but used to drink way to much. I cut back to the occasional beer or 2 not an 18 pack or a fifth of vodka a night I used to have 7 days a week. Coffee tho. 3-4 cups of black coffee or espresso every morning. Then usually in warmer months at least one giant ice coffee in the afternoon. I don't think I've had a day without coffee in over 20 years
Maybe, but if you don't, many bad thing can happen. I smoked for 40+ years and the year after I quit I nearly died - more than once.
