    Appears to be a well placed hit to me. I see displaced metal, so that is an indicator of a hit. Not something that happened at the mint, so not an error of any type. IMHO

    That's also my best guess. I wonder how many gum ball machines this penny went through. What a history this coin could tell! Thank you for the feedback. Every coin has a hidden lesson. I just want to learn how to describe and decipher coins online.

    Also.. if it were a doubled die issue then the correct numismatic terminology would be Doubled eye and not double eye.
