1846 half dime. Unlike most key dates, this one is legit hard to find.
I know this thread is old, but I just wanted to add my opinion to it:(

And there's no such thing as a necro, but I'm not one to bump a thread as old as I am.

I've always wanted an 1839-O $2.5. Its "achievable" but very painful. Not easy to find non-damaged.

Any 1916 US pattern coin, particularly the SLQ.

I just acquired two of those this last week. One was given to me and the other I bought for $20.00. What kind of price are we looking at on these?

    And a similar sub-question:

Take value out of the equation! So often it seems like people want something just because it's valuable...The crowd effect...What makes a painting worth a 100-million dollars and another one of similar age, intrigue and beauty almost worthless besides someone with $influence$ trying to get it?

If that 1894-S Dime or 1913 V-Nickel was still hard to obtain, but only around $50, would it still intrigue you?

The reason I ask is because I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the value of some Ancient coins with only a few known that aren't worth as much.

I would like to finsih my Walker collection -- getting the early dates at a reasonable grade is painful

Yes. I'm very interested in pattern and mint-issued fantasy pieces simply because they're unusual, and, compared to other US coins, very rare. Pattern coins are not incredibly expensive for their rarity, either. I considered buying an 1855 Flying Eagle pattern in PF-55 at one point; I think it was selling for $1300? Try getting ahold of an 1856 in a decent grade for that much! :)

I'd really like to complete my set of proof nickels with the addition of a nice proof 1867 with rays. It's the only proof nickel besides the 1913 Liberty that I don't have. They have come down slightly over the past few years, but still out of my range for a descent example.

Mine is simple...I have always wanted a "genuine":

Athens, Greece, Old Style Tetradrachm, c. 454 - 404 B.C. It is the coin of my dreams...I can't post of the coin at my work PC...but I will post one when I get home. Yep...that's the one I want in a worst way. Thanks for sharing.
