    bdunnse Who dat?

Working with Airtite to manufacture a coffin for me and my coins to be buried in. A body sized Dansco is just impractical.

I feel the same way Kirk. My collection is modest compared to many on here but it represents 4 generations worth of work.

My son already told me he was going to roll it all up and bring it to the bank

I think it's ok to abort up until the 240th month but I'm not a doctor or lawyer so you might want to double check that;)

This is interesting topic. My dad was a modest collector over his whole life. Mostly U.S. Mint products, and alot of ASE's. I did collect a little under his direction and gifts as a young man - mostly just tucking them away. After his death - he left his collection to me. It was not a ton of value (us mint products and silver) but a nice collection none the less dating back to 1960. Also some older pennies and dimes and nickles.

I gave small set of foreign silvers to my brother hoping he would remember my dad by them - but he pawned them to get cash to bet at a casino.

However I have kept the bulk of them - and also begun adding each year a modest addition of coins as he would have done. I also add more Canadian coins then he did do to my mom being from Canada. I still use the storage containers with his hand writing on them. It makes me feel connected to him when the new coins come each year and I set down and look at the new and old coins with my daughter. She seems to like to look at all the designs and old dates.

I am not sure in the end what will happen. As retirement (or some other major need) I may sell many of them but heck we are not talking alot of money. I would also set aside a small number of coins for my daughter to do as she pleases - perhaps hoping she would also keep them - and once or twice a year look at them and remember me. But heck - I love her and she can do what ever she wants with them that makes her happy.

I've told my son which coins have special meaning and that I want saved . Other than those they can sell all the rest unless my grandson or other grandkids I may have take an interest. That would be the best option.

My son collects too, so he'd get my collection. When I talked to him about inheriting it, he said he'd keep it in tact to remember all the time we spent together picking many of them out. A lot of my enjoyment of this hobby is sharing it with him. So, whatever he decides to do with my collection when I'm gone will be totally up to him.

I have been wondering about this subject for a while now my self. I just turned 67 and I am in very
Bad health from serving two combat tours in Viet-Nam as a recon Scout. I was wounded twice, seriously the last time, and had malaria 3 times. My heart is in such condition from the malaria that my heart Doctor
Say's that I can not survive another surgery.
I live in Anchorage Alaska and we only have three small coin shops here and all three are crooks.
I know if my wife took my collection to either one of them to sell she might as well run them through
    A coin star.
I hope that some one out there has a suggestion or knows a coin dealer that would be honest
enough that I could send my collection to and they would pay me a fair price. I estimate my collection to be worth some where around fifty thousand. My health is too bad to fly, so taking them to the lower 48 to sell myself is out of the question. I have thought about selling them on EBay
But I do not feel like or have the energy to write a description for each coin. If any of you have a suggestion of what I should do, I would appreciate your suggestions very much.
I know my wife could never handle this problem. She does have a couple of sons, but if I gave
The coins to them, I might as well bury them and let some lucky guy find them with a metal detector

    Thanks

What's in your collection? A lot of reputable dealers will handle coins on consignment.

Thank you for your service. I'm terribly sorry to hear about your health issues.

I would contact Ian Russell at Great Collections. He would send the appropriate coins to either NGC or PCGS for grading prior to selling. He'd also give you good advice on your other items. He's located in S. California. Visit their website to start the conversation.

I am fortunate that my wife understands the hobby and has sense on what to do. I think in my will I will have directions and collaborate with a trusted dealer on what to do.

Me I'm all for selling them before I go and let someone enjoy them. I think if something did happen my girlfriend would enjoy them or have enough business sense to sell them. She is learning and has an appreciation as well as a good idea of their value as I've shared some of this with her. Also if something happened there would be many other assets to deal with and sell or not. Best bet with my collection would be one of the major auction houses as most is slabbed and higher end. As well as much of it came through there

Thanks to all of you that replied to my question about what to do with my coins
When I pass. I will check all the info that you sent. No one ever knows when the
time will be. When your young you never think of these kind of things. But when you get older it seems like your body is trying to give you a heads up, at least that is the way it feels to me. Now everyday day feels worse than the day before. I wish that I had found this sit a couple of years ago when I felt more like working on my collection. Just a suggestion, you younger collectors should give it some thought now. This day and age, things have changed so much you never know if there is going to be a tomorrow or not.

I have written a "what to do" document for my wife. I also suggested Great Collections. It seems appropriate for my collection. Some is slabbed, some not, and it is not crazy high-end. Seems like a one-stop place where she can probably get back what I paid.
