I have had this Dime for years. Any ideas on what it would grade? I know the photos are bad...just looking for some general thoughts. thank you.
I'd try a good long acetone soak. There's a decent chance that black crap will come off. Is well worth a try. Soak it overnight and see what that does
XF for sure. As others have said, the toning looks rather blah! I don't know if it would qualify as environmental damage, or just unattractive toning. The former would give it a details grade, the latter would not change the technical grade.
Just want thank everyone who chimed in. Love this forum, so much great info. Might try the acetone...
Even if the black comes off (which, I don't think it will), you'll be left with the results of the corrosion. And, the reverse appears to have been cleaned with some sort of harsh treatment. I'd say the coin has strong VF details (maybe EF?), but because of the corrosion and cleaning is probably only worth $50-$65.
I thought you were crazy with that value, and then I looked. I forgot that it is a better date, lower than 1 million mintage. Sorry for my thoughts.
