The DD will have higher levels to the second image.

MD is lower & flat or 'shelf' like.

Yes, I know. These don't look flat when looking at the penny. I can't get good pictures though.

1982 was a tough year for coins being in a state of transition to copper plated zinc. A lot of anomalies appeared that year, but also quite few doubled dies. Sorry, but this is not one of them. Doubled dies also, generally have a fatter appearance and not so sharply struck. These pics are all 1982's 1 1982 dd 2.jpg 1 1982 dd 3.jpg 1 1982 dd.jpg

Can you get a clearer picture of the N from IN?

And I say that because I have a 1982 small date I am trying to figure out that doesn't match anything reported. Yours is a large date, different animal I assume, but it looks like you have some splits. Hard to say from those photos but it sure seems like there are some.

There is the splitting on it. I just can't get a good picture.

Uhg. The more I look at what I was focused on the more I think machine doubling. Good eye though. I'd still throw it in a jar labeld interesting or something along those lines.
