What Do You Think It Will Grade

One of the disenchanted CT members who gave up reading and posting here still stays in touch with me and asks me lots of questions I can't answer (and some I can). He is determined to send this coin in (PCGS I think) for grading because he thinks it will be SKY HIGH! What do you think it will grade?

A coin like this would have to look almost perfect to be worth getting graded.
If it comes back a 65 it's not worth it. ($1).
You really need like a 68 (or more) hard to tell from the photos as the light is
creating a glare so you can't see the defects through the glare.
I see some nicks that will prevent a high grade. Some on the date, some on the rim, some on the reverse. The coin has to look almost perfect.

That's pretty much what I said, he expects a 70

 

I would think probably a 65, or 66 on a really good day. Not super high grade, and certainly not worth being certified.

 

@Michael K is right as usual. Unless it came back at top pop it wouldn't be worth it and this coin wouldn't qualify.

I'd say this too.
Save the grading for rare or low mintage numbers.
Nice looking cent though and it does say 68 on it already. maybe just maybe? subliminally that alone would put it over the edge.

 

The pictures are too overlit to really get a good feel. But, 65 or 66, max.

 

I think it’s a 65, maybe a 66 on a good day. If he sends it in he’ll never recover his costs. Last year I bought a 1958 Wheat Cent, graded by PCGS as a MS-66 Red. I only paid $5.00 for it and there’s a lot less of them this this year.

Why do people think they have something special when they have a copper memorial cent? I have a tin full of them but I don't go through them nor my coffee can of wheat cents.

 

Too much glare on the surface to bother with a guess.
