Edwardvs VII DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX FID? Big gold coin please help identify!! picture.

I have a coin that i recieved from my grandfather and it is a large gold coin on one side it says Edwards Vii Dei Gra: Britt: OMN: REX FID: DEF:IND:IMP and on the other side the date is 1895 and has a picture of a warrior slaying a dragon on a horse, it has to be over an ounce heavy maybe more. Im looking to sell this please let me if you know what coin this could be and how much it is worth? THanks =) My email is edited:hail:

Somethings wrong here, in 1895 Queen Victoria was still on the throne!

 

Looks like it's pretending to be a 5 Pound sovereign of England, But Edward did not take the throne until 1901 and the only year they made 5 Pound coins with him on them were 1902. A real 5 pound coin should weigh 1.28 oz

 

It tested positive for real gold...i dont see why someone would make a big coin like this with real gold and not have it be real..any ideas ?

 

It weighed in pretty heavy much over 1 oz

 

It could be just gold plated, The point is it has an impossible combination of date/monarch to be real. Furthermore, even with with the proper monarch (Victoria), no 5 pound coins were minted in 1895 only in 1893.

 

first of all, the pic of the coin you posted says 1893, not 1895.


that being said, the obverse (or front) should be queen victoria, not edward vii. as was stated earlier, edward did not take the throne until 1901. sorry to say, but your coin is a fake.

 

I took it to a coin store and found out some interesting info 1. its pure gold 2. it was made in india a long time as a counterfeit as it was legal there as long as it was made with gold and they obviously made an error on the front of the coin. The store offered me $1650 for it but I think i'll just hold onto it for awhile. =)
