Not 100% sure if it's a collector or not, but they keep putting these cheap and ugly Panamanian coins in cent rolls. I suspect they are not collectors because I have found copper and wheat cents in their rolls. I would estimate they do about 3-5 cents worth per roll on average. The irony is that they are unknowingly leaving coins of greater value while they are trying to cheat the bank (I suppose) pennies on the dollar. The last few months I've had at least 20 rolls with them (from multiple stops at different bank locations and at different times). Because of this I also suspect this person is near me here in south Florida.
With Panamanian coins too? I can understand with Canadian cents, those have always ended up in US cent rolls, but never seen it with Panamanian coins, especially as much as recently.
Yup. I probably have 50 of them so far. Not to mention all the bahamas, bermuda, and the entire box of canadian cents.
What people will do to get a few cents worth (usually) that they couldn't otherwise. But half these people would let a store use this to give a penny. The worst I got once was a roll of quarters that had 3 dollars worth of Canadian Quarters. Luckily for me I just kept them a few years until I went up north and spent them. Occasionally though I've gotten a nickel in a cent roll or a dime in a cent roll. It tended to mostly just work out.
Man I can't get over how ugly that Panamanian cent is. Whoever designed that should not only be fired immediately but also thrown in prison.
There are multiple different designs for them too. I think I have found 3 different ones in all of my roll searching. All just as ugly
Things never change! In the mid-80's when I was a bartender on Ft. Myers Beach, we'd find foreign coins in bank rolls and the tip jars nearly every day. If the customers gave them to me as a tip, I never complained because the bottom line was for the bar to make money. I'd get coins from Europe (pre-Euro days), Central America, South America, Australia and even Africa. Did I say I never complained? Well, almost! The ones that really pissed me off were the damn Canadians when the discount rate was 32%. They'd drive down here in their $250K motorhomes and park in shopping center parking lots for a day or two before moving on to the next lot. They'd drive into an RV Park claiming that they wanted to check the place out, and when the park employee wasn't looking, they'd dump their waste tank. Yeah, these cheapskates would bring with them hundreds of rolls of Canadian quarters to salt into their everyday purchases during the 2-3 months of their stay. Chris
I hear ya Chris. Every winter they come down here to south Florida in massess and they can be "tight" with their wallet, no offense. I have friends in the food and beverage industry that do not like serving them cause of the reputation for poor tipping. Overall it's a boost they provide economically to the business owners and real estate rental market, etc, but yea they are stingy with dinero. There is an increase in the area with their coins. It's a noticeable difference this time of year. I like keeping them. I may even have enough to fill some folders. If anything I will keep them until their money is worth more than US money again. Might take a while to get back there, but no hurry. I guess it's a way of longterm currency trading.
It's on par with our Shield cent reverse , both the people who approved them should be doing hard time .
You got 50 rolls of Canadian cents from an American bank? I used to live in Michigan and I don't think I've seen that many Canadian cents in one place before in my life.
Not all at once Over the last 3 years of searching, I have pulled out enough Canadian cents to fill a box.
I am just outside of Chicago and have just started CRH. I have not seen any Panamanian, but I have started a nice Canadian collection, not that I intended on starting one.
I get Panamanian coins in roll searches, so far I have found a 2 1/2 centesimos from 1907 that is my oldest foreign roll find and one of the best foreign finds. At least Panamanian coins go into my credit unions machines.
