Hello All, I think I might have made a rookie mistake. I kind of got ahead of myself here and bid/won these yesterday afternoon. Of course a few hours later I read a very interesting post on here about fakes, dishonest sellers, etc so I am kind of worried about these. I did so a search and compared these to sold coins and also reproductions/copy's. OK, Long story short, ] Are these original, non altered genuine time period coins? My max bid on both were $51.00 and I honestly did not think I would win them. But of course I did so now I am feeling like I made a mistake for some reason. I will be back on later and any opinions, judgements, thoughts, recommendations, etc are very much appreciated. Also, I have big shoulders and can carry some weight. Please do not hold back with your opinions (on the coins). If I messed up I want to know about it.. Thank You, For this Tetradrachm I paid $44.05 SILVER-TETRADRACHM-COIN-c-300BC-ALEXANDER-ATHENA-27mm And for this one below I paid $49.05 ANCIENT-INDO-GREEK-BACTRIAN-SILVER-DRACHM-COIN-KING-MENANDER-c-155-130BC
OK, I'll try to figure out how to do that. I hope these links work. Thank You!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANCIENT-GREEK- SILVER-TETRADRACHM-COIN-c-300BC-ALEXANDER-ATHENA-27mm-/131708361918 http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANCIENT-IND...-COIN-KING-MENANDER-c-155-130BC-/131708362106
View attachment 473532 View attachment 473533 I had the same question as the author of this thread. I bought this today and feel as if it got washed/Cleaned. It looks too silver for an 1897 coin. I wanted my first Morgan and this is what I got. The photos aren't that great, any help on making them better would be great. The light distorts the coloring, in reality it looks like a really nice coin.
First link took me to Greek coin books. Second to a blurry photo. I'll bet both turn out to be bad due to only one bid and terrible photo.
LOL... talk about hijacking a thread. @Bman33 you might want to start your own thread so to keep things separate. Or at least wait until OP's question has been answered by others before getting yours in.
start your own thread, people may see it there. also, take the coin out pre-photos, those are useless.
Why is that bad? Might save time and add to discussion of original question. Just asking...I'm ignorant about Internet tricks and rules.
It is not such a good idea since someone might start reading this thread about a tetradrachm and here is a question about a Morgan dollar. Why have any threads, just log on and write about whatever is on your mind.
Thanks to all that replied. I was excited when I signed on a saw that there were a bunch of reply's. I was wondering what the heck happened when I started reading about morgans. Then saw that they were mostly about schooling a new member like myself about thread hijacking. No harm no foul and the bottom line is it worked out for the best anyways because my pictures were horrible. I will start a new thread with better photo's tomorrow, actually this afternoon. The good thing is I messaged the seller a few times before bidding and asked about authenticity, guarantee's, if he lists these often, etc and these were the reply's. "I dealt in coins exclusively for over 40 years (primarily US and Canadian), and then slid sideways into antiques. I will still buy a collection now and then, but don't really get a lot of great coins these days. The ancients were some that I've had for years and forgot about, and there are no more after this lot." and this: Except for the Trajan pin, which I'm pretty sure is a repro, all the coins I have listed are guaranteed genuine and of the period. As for the Bactrian, I think it's priced at far less than its true value. If I were you, I would shoot for the Bactrian first, based on its opening bid vs. real value, which I think may be somewhere around $200 or even more. (It's also very intriguing!) ". I am not sure how it will turn out or if I will have to return them but I am excited about them. Which is one of the reasons why I love collecting. Thanks All and Carpe Diem, Hardtruths
