I thought I'd change it up a bit, and instead of guess the grade, I'd do a guess the 65. One of the three coins I posted is a 65 (according to NGC), pick which one. IMG_2951.JPG IMG_2952.JPG IMG_2953.JPG IMG_2954.JPG IMG_2955.JPG IMG_2956.JPG

Where is none of the above? I can't believe any of them graded a 65.

Cool idea for a thread, I'll say coin #2

Edit: if these were from any other mint I'd say none of the above

Based off those pictures it would have to be 1 or 3. My swag is 1 but as mentioned from those pictures I do not see a 65. BUT it could just be because of the pictures.

:bigtears::arghh: I blew it. Voted #3 due to luster. WRONG! Hair flat + too many hits on obverse.

#1 has fewest marks but stained.

#2 best eye appeal to me; but planchet flaws face and minor hits rev (not especialiy important). This is the coin I would pick for my collection as I like the flaws - they tell a story about minting process. BUT

If allowed to change my position/poll answer: TPGS picked #1 as the MS-65.

Just showing my ignorance with this post

I voted for #2 because the roller marks shouldn't affect the grade.

FWIW, it looks like both 84-CC's came from the same pair of dies, but the second one was struck earlier than the first one.

#3 is the only one that possibly has that "65" look IMHO.

Call me #1 I think someone had dirty fingers and grabbed that case. Most what I see looks to be on the plastic.

Nope, the color and shape of the stains is typical.

Alright, I couldn't wait any more. What's even crazier is I sent in both 84s to be VAM 2 attributed. I would send it back, but how much money can you throw away? My personal opinion is the 65 cutoff is very difficult to guess. But I think they got it wrong with these coins. Coin 1 doesn't photograph well, but the surfaces are smooth. Coin 2 looks just as good. Coin 3 IMO was a 64+. So is it inconsistency, or are there characteristics I'm just not taking into account? But the VAM 2 thing ticked me off. I sent in three 84s, so it's possible either I or they didn't note the right one to look at, but that VAM is so easy to spot wouldn't they just say "Oh he meant this one"? (Don't ask me why I would even waste money on attribution, I just think it's cool)

The photos I take tend to show the coin in the most negative light. But I take them the same way every time, so it shouldn't be a factor.

For me the best Reverse was #3 but the Obverse Photo to me had the worse Eye Appeal.
#1 Seemed the best of all Choices unless as @Insider says those Stains are on the coin and not the plastic.

Stain was on the coin. I like to use scratch x on the holders before I send them in, so the plastic is pretty clean. Maybe the stains held it back. I think it's the hairlines on the forehead, I was actually worried it would get a detail grade.

I think #2 was the best looking one, and it got the lowest grade. I have some learning to do.

Me too  but GTG posts are helpful. IMO the luster pulled #3 into 65 for them; yet the lack of hair should have dropped coin to 64 something. Congrats to all the winners!
