Here is a Claudius II Ant. I have had for awhile. Got it due to the "Isis Faria" reverse, which I don't see too often. I took many pics, best I could get for this particular coin. Much better in-hand. Claudius II (268 - 270 A.D.) Æ Antoninianus O: IMP C CLAVDIVS AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. R: SALVS AVG, Isis Faria standing facing, head left, holding sistrum and basket; Є Antioch mint 22mm 3.37g RIC 217
Nice example of a less common reverse, Mat. I wish mine was as well-centered. I'm not sure if it would be correct to call the reverse Isis Faria, however, who was specifically the Isis of the Pharos (Lighthouse of Alexandria), patron of sailors, and typically shown with the sail that she is said to have invented. I imagine it is more likely the Isis of the main cult that is being shown here.
Nice score! I have one Claudius II but no Isis: Claudius II (Gothicus), AD 268 - 270 AE, antoninianus, 3.8g, 20mm; 11h; Rome, AD 269 Obv.: IMP C CLAUDIUS AVG; radiate, draped, curiassed bust right Rev.: GENIVS AVG; Genius standing left by altar, holding patera and cornucopiae
I LOVE it Mat!! I completely agree with all the previously posted 'accolades' !! The most 'interesting' example I have has the 'GOTHICO" legend...
Sweet OP-pickup, Mat ... Hey, I'm pretty sure this piece o' @#!t was my 2nd ancient purchase (yah, in hindsight, not a very good purchase, eh?) anyway => this Claudius Gothicus will always have a place-setting at my coin dinner-table ...
That's one of the sharpest strikes I've seen on those memorial issues. If it were centered on a nicely-trimmed flan, it would be a best-of-type coin. I prefer it as is, though - it's got great character.
sweet coin mat, well centered for this cat, neat reverse....and the color is awesome. here's a claudius ii a coin buddy gave me....
