I was searching threw my wheat 40s -50s mix for errors today but I was looking for 41 ddo or 42d/s or 46 s/d and I noticed a weird Mark on this coin witch made me compelled to put this coin under the loop. I didnt even notice the super faint S mint Mark at the tail of the 5 at first. I was wondering how it was worked under the date without jeopardizing it's appearance. Then I noticed it and I was in awe. I never seen anything like this before. If you look at the tail end of the 5 on 1953 you can see a very faint S mint mark which looked to be filed off then stamped with a date ???? Can Anyone please shed some light on this !!
......and that's Mary Todd Lincoln facing to the right above the "5". You can see almost anything if you look long enough. Chris
Give me enough Scotch, and I'll see whatever you tell me I see. However, I haven't had any Scotch tonight. So, I don't see what you tell me I see.
What is picteal if you don't mind me asking?and to be clear you said you can or cannot see the San Francisco mint mark?
It looks like there was something done to this coin at the san Francisco mint before the date was pressed
My thought was it was a 1953 s with the cud error like yours above then it got filed off and Re dated ??? But that sounds crazy to go though all that for a penny Which has me baffled and a few of these guys laughing...
I'll play along here for a second and say there is no S under the 5. What kind of error do you call that that is around the date ?
