Hello everyone! Hope all is safe and well. Today I'm calling it: Wacky Wartime Nickel Wednesday! Post yours please. Thanks in advance. Also, please follow the link to Coin World for the History, Values and Varieties! Silver War Nickels: History, Values and Varieties (coinweek.com) Here is my very own 1944D/D Nickel!
What makes a nickel wacky? Well this one fits. This is a clamshell error. https://www.error-ref.com/split_plan_after/
I have a few 1943/2 P Jefferson Nickel 1943 P Doubled Eye Jefferson Nickel 1943 P Clamshell Lamination 1944 S Dollar Sign Die Crack Jefferson Nickel
Here a set that I bought a year or so ago. I have since upgraded three of the pieces that came in it. One of them which I might have saved had spot where the copper with not properly mixed with the rest of the alloy. Look a Jefferson's cheek above the jaw.
Besides these duplicates, aside from my main set, I have UNC nickels in capsules and slabs. My main high grade set, probably has nicer ones with best step counts but my main set is on my bucket list to photograph individually. Will I ever get around to it? There's probably nothing "Wacky" about these except for the guy who collected them. War nickels are one of my very favorite coins to collect. I suppose I should look for all those over mintmarks. I need to photograph my extra UNC War Nickels in Capsules 1 1942P 1 1942S 4 1943P 2 1943S 2 1944P 2 1944D 3 1945P 3 1945D 1 1945S plus several graded ones 1942S PCGS MS64 1943D ANACS MS65 5 Steps 1943D PCGS MS66 FS 1943S NGC MS66 1945S PCGS MS65 Looks like I'll be getting another 44S to make up a 6th set? Here's 4 extra sets, one is within a complete 38 to 64D set. I guess that's why I'm thenickelguy
Here’s one I picked up recently, a real blazer in-hand and have been meaning to ask @Paddy54 for the pro analysis as there looks to be some fun die stuff going on. Like VAMs I find it hard to not second guess myself when trying to attribute these.
