Maybe a partial missing clad layer, I'm not an expert with errors though. It looks like there is a chance though.
It looks like a very small lamination error to me. I don't think it would be worth any more than face value. Chris
Maybe this photo will help. I do not know what it is with you high in collectors, value is not everything, the looks and what may have caused it. the symmetry of the error it's coin art. Have you really gotten so? complacent that you cannot enjoy the looks of a coin?
I am struggling to understand what you are attempting to say here. Assuming I understand you correctly: Coins are a mass-produced industrial product. The Mint is a factory. Any time there is an error like this, the mint considers it poor quality control (it's the same as if you bought a pen with no cap, or shoes without laces - someone at the factory screwed up). Some errors are very common, and/or very minor. A small lamination like you have shown is both common and minor. It is still interesting, but has little value. That's fine. It has nothing to do with "high in (end?)" collectors - the fact of the matter is, an error like this just doesn't have much premium. We aren't being dismissive of your treasure - we are saying that it is very common. You can enjoy these little defects, and many people do keep them as curios. But that doesn't change the fact that you have a small error worth about face value.
This is good and informative information for the new and young collectors. To clarify high in collectors, I would enjoy seeing a photo out of your collection, and I'm sure some of the new and younger collectors would also like to see it or is this kind of coin not worth the space it takes For you ? If I understand you, you say these coins are common, please go to the bank and by a roll of each denomination and goes through these coins and show me one of these common coins that you found in one of those roles let's take that one step further and just buy a box of pennies,
I have no intention of buying rolls or boxes and searching through them. I don't have the time or interest, and I have nothing to prove. Anyone interested in looking at my collection can see my Registry sets here:
so you have a registry, and I'm not saying you had something to prove. you cant post one photo out of your collection that resembles this coin. All I'm saying to the new error collectors and the young error collectors that just because someone makes a quote that these are common does not mean you're gonna find one of these in the next pocket of change you may have to use actually search for one, but some of the collectors do not pay attention to these coins anymore I think that's sad. When a new error collector finds a coin like this in his pocket change hopefully it peaks his interest wanting to know what it is, how it was caused and so on, isn't that what coin collecting is about, the fun of collecting.
It's missing a very small piece of clad layer. It could be a QC error, or environmental damage. If it isn't uncirculated, I would lean toward the latter. If you value it keep it, but I wouldn't bet on anyone else loving it more than you.
Oh, I see what you were attempting to say. Your lack of grammar and spelling leaves me confused. No, I don't have one of these particular errors. For me, a minor error like this detracts from the value and I avoid them.
unfortunately I have to depend on voice recognition, as you can see I've been having a lot of problems with it. And it's hard to take the country out of the boy. So please bear with me, I can actually show my friends and their children what that Coin actually looks like. It is only my opinion that it is unfortunate that you have decided to stop collecting these types of errors, that means there's that much more for us to collect. The blue collar coin collector basically collects what thay can in change and sometimes goes to the neighborhood coin shop, and collects what they can and what their interested in. Basically you're on the side of the railroad tracks, will say grown out of collecting the lower end error coins. But from being on the other side of the road tracks it's just another error coins in my collection.
I'm not a high end collector and my guess is that most of us using coin talk are also not high end collectors. I use this site to increase my knowledge of numismatics. You posted a coin with a minor error and asked for an opinion on it. INMHO it appears you are upset with the opinions given to you and if that's the case you shouldn't ask for it. Please do not let anything I or anyone else says deter you from collecting whatever you choose to collect. Just have fun doing it! PS. I'v been using this site for only a short time but I have learned a lot. Hope you will stick with us.
Basically what I'm trying to say is what you wish to collect is your business and preference. But myself and a lot of my friends who collect error coins, are just blue collar collectors, we enjoy all errors, I have one friend that always wants to know what the coin is worth, and by no means is He a uptown collector, we consider him a collector with champagne taste on a beer budget. And does not really enjoyed the errors he has found. I am new to the talk myself and have stated before I will keep learning something new every day until the day I die, though I may disagree with some of the terms as some members no, and only hope some day some changes will occur in numismatics terminology. That's another story. And this is just comments made by some collectors that I know that read this site, why are a lot of collectors on that site so hung up on (value). They just want to find information on a coin that they have found. And always read comments from other collectors that that coin is not (worth anything), instead of the monetary value of that Coin is on the low end but it will be a nice addition to your collection if you choose to keep it. To me someone who's new in error collecting would have the incentive to keep looking for errors in their change is some collectors would stop telling other collectors that their coins are not worth collecting. And in closing if I were a new error coin collector and came to this site it would scare the hell out of me. But fortunately I'm far from being new but still have a lot of seasoning to do. I hope my grammar and spelling is a little better, (not really it is what it is)P.S collectors who give information on the site stop using the word common, that word is definitely a misquote in most cases and it gives an impression to the new collectors that that error can be found easily,(NOT) Enjoy collecting and have fun.
P.S and as far as my grammar please go to my yesterday's thread gobble gobble gobble it was intended for you.
I am definitely not a "high-end" collector (however one defines this term or the "blue collar" term) and I would encourage ANYONE asking for an opinion on an error coin, major or minor or not an error at all, to be respectfully open to whatever opinions are offered. Making a judgment that someone's opinion is worthwhile or worthless based on the size of their coin collecting budget seems to be a very unhelpful action for a public forum like this. Just MHO. Steve
