I have two samples of different Mint marks. Question is, which one is the more common one. Or are they both as common. skinny D above the 5 from the date fat D offset from the 5 from the date
You have to remember that the mintmark was punched into the die by hand in that year, so the depth of the strike could affect the thickness. Chris
After I posted this post I started to find more off centered mint marks. I knew I would not be able to retire from them. But I was not sure how common they were. I have never looked as close to the details as I am now since I joined a coin forum So please have patience with me.

Someday these might be appeciated but they aren't now. One thing is certain, the only ones available in high grade will be those from mint sets.
