New guy here been looking at 5000 halves and found this...is it legit or strike doubling?....i trust you guys from reading threads so please help me if you have the time. Thank you
It looks like machine doubling, but it's a lot of doubling. Would someone please come along to prove me wrong?
I don't believe you are wrong though. While most of the strike doubling we see here is fairly minor, there are more extreme examples out there.
Bummer....i really like this coin and the ear. Was hoping i was wrong but it seemed just too shelf like. If anyone has scene this before let me know i dont have the only one even if it is machine and not die...thanks
The easiest way to tell, if you have other coins to compare, is that the device, in this case the ear, is reduced in size from the norm. When strike doubling occurs, the metal that makes up the double, comes off of the original.
I really appreciate all the help...when i first started looking for errors....it seemed so easy.....but seems to be more complicated....keep up the good work i love learning all the differences and nuances
Thank you.....im keeping it for the aesthetic value i think it looks nice and its 50 cents....shouldn't bankrupt me lol.....thanks guys for all the comments....im a beginner with the BUG.....lol....i apprecite everyones opinions
