Perhaps because the "Old Hands" here don't like to be challenged? Very few ever discuss the coins...they either change the subject, get mad and leave, or name call. I'll guarantee if we all went to dinner together or were at a table with a stereoscope, we would all come to agree, like, and respect each other. I am learning a lot about photography here. Anyone take the Summer Seminar on the subject?
My mistake. It is supposed to be the VAM-2C3. Scroll down to the 6th photo. It is one I took from my coin. Do you see any raised area in the space between the clashes? Of course not! What other excuse are you going to dream up? Chris PS. I am 68, so you must be the only liar around here.
Chris, Please Quote my post where I said die clashes have a raised area between them. I don't think I EVER said that. What I do remember saying is DIE CLASHES CAN APPEAR RAISED AND INCUSE ON (the same coin at the same time) A COIN and I provided an example on a gold dollar. Unlike many posters I have pissed-off, I have not "ducked" any discussion or questions posed to me. This is fun and educational. So far, No one has agreed that the coin is clashed with both raised and incuse elements. What do you think Now I shall stop what I'm doing and look up another (ho-hum) VAM. I'll bet it is just another simple clash...LOL. Ha, ha, Chris you took the bait
VAM-2C3. Very nice coin with multiple clashes. Just like the OP Lincoln cent. So what's the "beef?" I'm a sarcastic, know-nothing troll so please don't forget to Quote all my misinformation about die clashes on this thread so I can learn more. Otherwise you can join the rest of the bad-mothers and question duckers!
Sarcastic is correct, and doesn't work well for everyone. If you aren't 70, what age are you...enquiring minds want to know.
I'm a 70 year old PNG member. Been collecting since eight when my grandfather gave me a Sesqui $2 1/2 from the Fair and some circ CC dollars he pulled out of his weekly pay in Philadelphia. Been a professional numismatist for 47 years. I am a numismatic teacher and I'm appalled at what I see posted by many successful professionals (?) here. Nevertheless, I enjoy everyone here on CT and we are all entitled to have opinions. I DO get frustrated with some opinions but NEVER angry! When I grew up there was no political correctness, plenty of bullies, and we all were sarcastic and loved to debate.
"The "Troll" around here just looked. Sixty-eight...hum? I lied about my age too." So are you 70 or not? Age is a convenient excuse.
But in post 60, you say you lied about your age. I was taking the #67 that you weighed 67 pounds (70-year olds are terribly literal).
Perhaps it's the method that you are using to teach your opinions. I'm sure you can find a way to teach in a fun way. As far as "very few ever discuss the coins", you are not reading the right threads. The fun is here if you don't get hung up on a few negative threads.
Thanks for the advice! My middle name is "abrasive." I've been trying to tone down my posts by using "IMO." I am not accustomed to people who give an opinion and then refuse to back it up. I learn things when I debate. Many times I'm persuaded to change my view; however, some of the characteristics on coins that we write about here fall under Basic 101; yet they are still debated It's like many posters believe 2 + 2 = 7 That's frustrating. Debating over photos is difficult at best. Thankfully, there are a number of long time members here (you're probably one) who really know their stuff.
Many times people assume something is basic knowledge when it isn't, and in many cases might actually be wrong. A statement of IMO (or even IMHO) goes a long ways towards bringing someone to your viewpoint.
This is so true. Many professionals have told me most collectors have no clue. At first, I did not believe it. CT is a great place to become more informed. However, IMO, Basic Knowledge is just that: BASIC, no if's, and's or but's. Basic information is something that cannot (it is - see Die Polish)/should not be in dispute. IMO, we are all here (typing our life away) for many reasons. I like to pass on the BASICS that I have learned and best of all, it keeps me from spending money on EBAY. There is enough information w/photos on the internet to learn so much. Wexler's site comes to mind. As an example, IMO, there should be no reason to argue over what a coin that is struck thru grease looks like. I should like to see more instruction from a large number of the VERY INFORMED members here (who can post in a civil manner). Unfortunately, I feel some may have discovered it is hopeless and not worth the time as all of it has been discussed here many years ago. IMO, new collectors need to search the CT threads to educate themselves. In my world, any one signing up to CT would need to read through 40 or so pages of Basic instruction and answer questions on what they read - just like the online traffic school that takes about three hours to complete
You shouldn't need to ask! I'm a member of the "Attila-the-Hun" School of Law...it's the Arab in me At the very least - photo ID (which can still be faked). Wonder why one political party is even against that?
