1928 Peace dollar - Strike thru?

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by James Rohleder, Jan 17, 2016.

  1. Can anyone tell me about the markings on the hair and forehead of this 1928 Peace dollar. Looks like rays/spikes of some type. Grade? AU-cleaned? Capture_02413.JPG Capture_02414.JPG

I don't see anything that suggests a strikethrough. I'm inclined to believe that it is just circulation damage.

Definitely cleaned...lots of hairlines in the field in front of the eyes. However the lines on the forehead through the hair are curious...and do resemble the rays from the reverse. Not sure.

I agree I'd say try not to pay over 300 for it , if send it to Ngc or pcgs it'll come back in a clean details slabb

Was the coin encased in something at one point? There's a noticeable ring devoid of toning around the obverse, actually it's also on the reverse too but fainter looks as if something perhaps was covering that area before.
