Very nice combination! Taking a photo of the cathedral towers is quite difficult if you're on the ground - there just isn't enough room on the ground. The Eastern (apse) side is much easier but would not match the "coin view" of course ...

From 1928-1971 The Republic of Ireland issued coins using the British Sterling monetary system. In 1971 they converted to a decimal system where 100 Pence = 1 Pound or Punt. I was able to locate an aftermarket set which combines examples of both types. I noticed the set in an article in the Jan. 2016 issue of Coin World and wanted to add it to my collection. I was able to locate one in Shanghai China of all places. The set arrived a couple of days ago and I just now had time to get some photos. The plastic on the set is rough and has a lot of scratches but the cover is removable so I was able to get past that. Some of the coins are spotted with signs of verdigris and the Copper-Nickel coins are dark. However some display stunning toning. I'll probably soak the Copper-Nickel coins in Acetone to try and remove some of the organic material. The Brass coins I'll leave alone.
The label on the set shows that it is a "Complete" Decimal issue. Obviously this was put together long before the Punt, first issued in 1990.
Notice that the 10P and Florin share the same Salmon design and the 5P and Shilling share the same Bull design.
At first I thought I overpaid for this set, but the more I look at it, I think not.

Back on page 333 I posted the 2015 Mexico 20 Pesos commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Mexico Air Force. I mentioned the 2013 20 Pesos commemorating the Mexican Armed Forces. I finally got one. Believe it or not I found what I wanted in Barcelona Spain. Seems like I could find one closer to home. After all Texas is only separated from mexico by a wall.

No, you are not seeing double. The head and helmet actually has the outline.

Finally I have the last piece for my New Zealand pre-decimal set. Though according to the customs form on the package from Australia, it is for "Numismatic research purposes only" so I guess I'll have to think of some experiments. In the meantime, here it is. 1944 new zealand half crown.jpg

that's a nice looking design. congrats on completing that set. what are you hunting for next ? I am busy hunting down toned 50 cents coins for my toned Canadian 50 cent collection dates 1937-1967. doing really good so far. I am holding out for better coins with gorgeous toning on them. I also am collecting toned 10 cents (fish and boat type) and toned (caribou type) 25 cents. why Canada you ask ? just really liking their designs. I gotta 1967 toned set coming soon. I cant wait to see it in person. the toning on this set is amazing. Bay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1867-1967-7...enYUiMy%2B6fXDNMGFW5w%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I am especially liking the 50 cents and 25 cents of this set.

I am always happy when I finish collecting a theme. Then sad because all the fun is in the search. You, however have some many different ones going, I don't know how you keep them straight. Congratulations. That 1944 is a nice piece. The 20 Peso I got from Spain was noted" objekos de colecion" or something like that, the Ireland set from Shanghai was marked "China Token". I guess they have the same postal rules overseas as we do here.

Thanks. This one was hard to find. This is the first one I think I've seen for sale. I'm also working to upgrade a few of the coins in this series that aren't in such good shape. I'm not looking for uncirculated or anything but just want some decent looking examples.

I have a lot of series I'm working on. I keep a list of what I have or need from the different countries I focus on and every once in awhile I search and see if I can find any of them. I've probably been working on my Mexican and British sets longer than most but there are a lot of coins in both. With the British set I need to set limits since their coinage goes back hundreds of years, and Mexico has a ton of mintmarks if you go to the 1800s. I also collect Canadian coins but I haven't really focused on it yet. I just buy things when a good opportunity presents itself.

You're right that there are mixed feelings when you finish a series. I've now completed pre-decimal New Zealand, Irish 1928-2000 and Greek 1900-2000. Those were all countries with limited coinage and few really rare dates which made it possible. As for how I keep them straight, as I said in another post I keep lists of what I have or what I need. I still want to complete my modern Mexico collection (1905-present) but some of them just don't come around too often, and they go for a lot of money when they do.

Of all the coins I've purchased from overseas I think very few are actually honest on the customs forms. I think it's funny to see what they put.

Germany is a country I don't want to get too deep in because of all the variety. If I know I can never complete a set then that's something of a turnoff. I do buy the empire era coins whenever I see them in a junk bin though. I still don't own a gold coin but I'd like to someday.

Well spotted. I uploaded the wrong photo. That one is an MS 65 and I love the sharpness and toning. Here is the Canada 1813 at MS 62. Unfortunately, the grade difference is so apparent in hi-def!!! :)

    Still nice and v Canada 1913 Ob.jpg Canada 1813c Rev.jpg ery scarce.

Really excited to get this one in the mail. Finding one of these half crown proof issues this clean is rare. The vast majority of the examples I come across have unattractive, blotchy toning. Definitely paid top dollar for this grade, but worth it in my opinion.
