If the date had included a 7 there would have been a suspicion of a dropped letter. That is when a die accumulates dirt and metal in a number and it drops out and is struck over. Since that is not the case here I would agree with PMD.
The 7 is your imagination. The two vertical lines could be a die trail, meaning slight damage/wear to the die. value: 1 cent
I'm really curious. Cannot wait to read more posts like this to explain away the obvious. What else can we come up with? Perhaps it is a struck through wire that came off, or a large defect in the die - NOT
Louie, Welcome to Coin Talk. I have only been here for a few weeks myself and I love it here. One thing you'll need to watch. In my opinion, there are a large amount of opinions given that may not be useful. As you learn more, you'll be able to identify the trash from the excellent info. You will discover that if you closely examine most coins you'll be able to see EVERY LETTER and NUMBER in many different scripts/cultures (your coin is one) under the sun! Some of these "artifacts" are even located where a mint mark should be! Incidentally, I already have a "7" in my collection of fantasy numbers
True...w/PMD in the shape of a "7." I happen to collect these friggin coins from pocket change However, it is not friggin die damage...LOL.
Not going to talk about the 7 in question because it's really nothing.. but I did notice that your Cent is a MAD - Misaligned Die See how the North West area of the Cent is thicker than the other side. That probably attributed to the plating issue.
