Neat & v. unusual. Not cud. Tell us if the line at the date is raised. Looks like a stain from whatever caused the indentation. I for one have never seen this type of mark on a coin which did not also affect the field, so, something large and smooth had to be in the die recess at the neck and also caused tiny die break under the "whatever". Interesting, but ??? Let's see what others think.
the line going thru the 2 looks like a lamination crack and the upper line could be also and the indentation could be a detached lamination... just my guess..
The line thru the date is actually a crack. It is recessed from where the strike thru starts, to the rim with a little cud (I think) below the bottom bar of the 1.
Sorry Frank, I really didn't answer your question, the mark going across the bust to the second star is actually a die crack, this Morgan has several die cracks on both the OB and RV.
Very neat 21!... From the star through the neck into the hair is a simple die crack. The cigar shaped anomaly is seperate from the die crack and unique however. I'd guess strikethrough as well but boy is it unique looking. Think I want this guy to chime in for giggles to confirm strikethrough and maybe a guesses as to what the obstruction was... @mikediamond
I think that crack is uniquely placed for a 21 morgan as well so let's get "Mr.21's" opinion on the crack... @SuperDave
Do you think Mr. 21 could identify the VAM# if I put full pics of OB and RV.......this one has been a pain (in a good way) trying to figure out the VAM#.....I can't keep my eyes off the strikethrough.....
If it's a known vam then I'd say there's a 90% chance as they can be tricky and the list is loooong You're gonna have to post full, crisp is though
Only one way to find out. Are you familiar with the "Scribbling Scratches" known for 1921 Morgans, and if so could you apply your (considerable) detail photography talents to imaging that area as well?
I'm a newish member of VAMworld and believe me, I know the list is long for 21's. I tried matching it up with the crack guide till I was cross eyed...hee, hee....I bought this one off eBay for about $30, I bought it because of the possible strikethrough... Anywho, I really, really appreciate all the comments and help on this...
SuperDave, I'll give it a shot and I am somewhat familiar with the 21 scribbling. I'm at work right now, working really hard of course, hahaha, when I get home I'll post some of the pics I have of the entire OB and RV along with some close ups of anything I think is scribbling...
Now it makes complete sense...your coin is laminated! Don't do it but you could probably peel away most of the date Didn't see this. Ken "nailed" the error.
Boy it doesn't look like a typical lamination BUT look below the loop of the 9 and near the 1 and you'll see tiny lines that lend credence to lamination. Great score for $30!
I'm with ken454 on this being a lamination . It also looks like part of the "lamination" is raised a bit to the left of the line starting between the 2 and the 1 . Good eye Ken and a nice pickup for $30 JAY-AR .
