Nothing like a full head. Standing Liberty Quarter. He one of Mr K collection. 1916 also but other photo gallery wouldn't download. Toner big time!
I got my 1951 toned Canadian mint set today in the mail off Ebay. wow that 50 cent piece's toning warms my heart. It will make an amazing addition to my on going toned 50 cent collection from dates 1937-1967. sorry my phone camera takes crappy pics, but you will get the general idea of what that 50 cent piece toning looks like.... BadThad: How can you say Totally Different? They both change appearance, and cleaning is apt to be less drastic.
And one is natural with the other being purposely altered. Something akin to adding a MM, altering a date, etc.
Toning is a deliberate altering of a coin's appearance, including the patina. Cleaning is not at all akin with altering a date, etc (I don't recognize MM). It's true that a drastic cleaning would be something like bleaching or affecting the natural color---oh, but isn't that toning?
Deliberate toning is akin to cleaning. That is not natural. However, not all toning is deliberate - i.e.natural. For instance, the bags of silver dollars stored by the mint were far from deliberately toned. Natural toning accepted by (most of) the public
Because there are a lot of them out the? But if you are requesting someone make one for you, I will bet it will not get certified. BTW, you still have not told me what was deliberate about those silver dollars.
Rim's Cents: I appreciate your patience in trying to sell me on toning, but I think a natural coin is one that is lurking in cashiers, just as I feel that a coin that is neatly trapped behind cellophane, isolated from human touch, is like a lion in a cage. I am not drawn to voting on what toning color I like best. I cringe when I see good looking 19th century coins dolled up with toning. My interest is in coins graded from AG to AU, where their noble chemical symbols mean almost good and almost uncirculated. Beyond that, there is not as much fun.
