I recently went to a coin shop to buy some common Mint set's and bought 1999 thru 2008 P and D Mints. Upon investigating them I noticed the 1999 Denver Set was missing the dime. The pouch is intact no holes or splits and it looks like they forgot to put it in the pack before sealing. Can I get the mint to replace this still? Don't have a pic yet but can get one when I scan stuff. BTM
You're out of luck where the Mint is concerned. Your best bet would be to go back to the dealer where you bought it and see if he/she doesn't have a replacement. Chris
The mint would most likely not replace it but you could always try contacting them. your better bet is to bring it to the dealer who sold it to you and ask to swap it.
You may be able to sell it for more than you payed for it. There are lots of folks that collect errors .....
I completely agree, I would find the missing dime far more interesting than a regular intact mint set.
C'mon, Alan! It may be a Mint screw-up, but it is not an error. We have enough con artists on SleazeBay as it is. Chris
Right! The Mint sets aside 16-year old Mint Sets just in case something like this happens. Sure! Chris
It never hurts to ask. The worst thing that could happen usually is being told no, but on occasion people choose to ridicule you for your question....
It doesn't hurt to ask when there is a slight chance of success, but this is beyond being realistic. Why not just admit that the suggestion was an impossibility? Chris
Because some do not believe in the concept of "impossible." They're the ones who make more money than we do.
What he said ^ (go watch Shawshank Redemption and pay attention to the part where he wants to get books for the prison and what he does for it)
Heck, the mint wouldn't have any 1999 mint sets on hand after so many years. It would be futile to contact them........
Thank you all for the replies. At this point I am still not sure what to do with it. Maybe I will cut it up and release them into circulation? BTM
Yes, he told me that is the luck of the draw and some people cut these open remove a coin and reseal it without a trace. I think he thought I may have done this, which I did not.
If there is no evidence that the cello was cut, then I think he should make good on it. "The luck of the draw" is for poker players. He probably knew it was missing, and he should have made you aware of it. If it had been me and he fed me that line of crap, I would never trust him. Chris
