You have accrued a very nice selection of ancient coins as of late. Very nice and keep up the good work!

In my database I record any relevant discussion or research about the coin, ruler, or reverse that I find or anything useful/interesting the seller has provided. I also usually describe the coin in some way - if it's toned, damaged, well struck, or whatever the case may be. I also record anything I know that I want to research further.

I have almost no experience buying coins from shows or stores, all of mine, with few exceptions have come from sellers who knew what they had.

    Here's my Septimus denarius:

    Septimius Severus , AD 193-211
    AR Denarius, 3.3g, 20mm; 1h; Rome, AD 209
Obv.: SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right
Rev.: PM TRP XVII COS III P P; Neptune standing left, holding a trident, foot on globe

Here's a Sep Sev denarius I have that has toned to black as well. Silver shows through some light scrapes on the obverse and along the edge. It has some earthen deposits which highlight the devices quite nicely and I can't imagine wanting to clean this coin. I have no doubt that this really is its best look. The uncommon legend, MARS PATER, is the other thing I like about it.

JA, if I think that one of your coins is pretty cool, then I'll read your write-up ... but until I saw Doug's example, I had no idea what Roma had in her hand (I thought maybe it was Victory?) ... Palladium, eh?

=> Keep-on writing (people seem to be liking your coins, so you must be on the correct track, my coin-friend)

Doug: Great advice to not sell out! I'm sure others have stories similar to mine:
I was a collector and dealer for many years. In 2007 I sold the last of my collection, 19 choice Greek silver coins, to another dealer, for $35,000. Those coins today would bring AT LEAST $150,000. One example:
I sold this coin in 2007 for $1,500:

It sold in 2012 for $22,400 (including buyer's fee)!
    :arghh:

Dealers have to sell so they can buy. Those of us who collect are more likely to buy high and sell low. Would my family have starved to death without the $500 Joel Malter paid me for my 150 coins in 1974? I doubt it so I might have been better off keeping them. We could all stand to be a bit skinnier.

Sidenote: => somebody wants to buy some of my sweet ol' vinyl ...

I have several boxes of old records sitting in my basement collecting dust (yah, I was "that guy" when I was growing-up ... the guy that had the super-sweet record collection) ... and hey, I love my old albums because they're merely another one of my cool "collections" right?

=> but although I a still have a working turntable ("and" a turn-table that downloads onto my computer), I haven't listened to any of my old records in years

...... so is it time to make a few bucks and sell a few of them (all of them?) ... is it also time to sell my Canadian paper-money collection? (it was my go-to collection several years ago, but again, I haven't looked at, or added anything to that collection in years)

Hey, I hate the thought of getting rid of my cool old stuff, but when is enough, enough? (when do I start to unload my stuff?) ...

For example, if I sold my paper-money, I could probably buy my wife a new truck (we're currently trying to figure-out if we can afford another new vehicle) ... is it that time?

gawd ... is 2016 gonna be the year that I sell-out?

ehhh? ... if history repeats itself, then I am probably not your best bet at cleaning this place up? (everything was good for a while and then Bing bought a new camera .... I'm just sayin')

Haha! Well there aren't any moderators on right now. Don't worry @-Andy- they'll get a notification that it's been reported as soon as they come on. Reporting it more than once won't make it go away any quicker. @stevex6 it probably is a sign but one I'm unable to understand. I'm sure it means something.

Are you serious? That is not good at all, hopefully the moderators take that down right now!
