You can vaguely see the 1 at the end. I am sure it is worth nothing, but just interesting find. Just a grease filled die I'm sure. Also the last T in TRUST.
You're wrong, Sheila! It is not worthless. It is worth 1c! If what @Amos 811 claims is true, then there are more bidiots on FleaBay than I thought. Chris
Have a look at the rim on that side, compare it to the rim on the other side, and revisit the diagnosis. Humor me here.
I see what you mean by the difference in the sides. The coin looks very smooth though. But, not that it matters. I am just amused by finding silly errors.
Yes, and these are the "silly errors" which allow you to hone your observation skills and knowledge of the striking process. Eventually that translates into more subconscious judgments when confronted with "new" oddities; you know from what you've seen what is and isn't likely. This one's misaligned or off-center, perhaps enough to have had that effect on the strike by itself. The reverse would be relevant here.
Yes it is. Another thing that I see is that it could also be a slight MAD, Misaligned Die. The Rim looks thicker on the right side compared to the left
Could this be the "genesis coin" of a series of strikes on this die pair that very soon thereafter became a maker of broadstrikes? Is this what the coin that broke the striking collar looks like? That broadened rim at right tells me a story.
Yes. I am seeing lots of repeat things so I am Beginning to see things when they are really off. Here is something I just ran Across. Notice how the D is crooked and the thickness of it?
