Ebay is an amazing place. You have every kind of coin you could imagine there. Chinese fakes, "estate" co ins cleaned with an orbital buffer, some decent coins sellers want 300% of greysheet for, and some great finds. I got lucky with this one. It's just a common date, but it's a VAM 7A, which is pretty cool. I thought I'd share it. Check out the rust pits on the wings. IMG_0330.JPG IMG_0331.JPG IMG_0332.JPG

Edit:The hardest part of finding coins on Ebay is the price is rarely commensurate with the quality. I used to think "that seller is asking a lot for that one, it must be good for the grade", but then I realized there are just greedy sellers. Then there are honest sellers with good prices whose coins don't sell because people think something must be wrong with them. Then there are people who think all coins look the same. That's how I got this one.

did the sellers pics allude to the error or did you just flat out get lucky?

No mention of VAM 7A but I knew it when I saw the pictures. And I got lucky because no one else either saw it or cared (and it's pretty good condition). I'm thinking people saw the pics of the reverse and thought it was in a fire lol.

This is a spectacular VAM. The totally crushed reverse draws unfair attention away from what is one of the most visually prominent die gouges in the entire Morgan series, right behind the eye.

    Much obliged. :D

This die didn't last long at all. Even the later die states are available with *really* nice fields. ANACS has a total of 52 of these between 7 and 7A, less than half the Population of the R.6 VAM-4B, for instance.

Very sweet!! Was it an auction or a Buy it Now?

It was an auction and went for way less than I thought (though not that much different than a typical GSA).

Very nice pick anyway. I assume it's off to NGC?

I finally got my ANA NGC submission number now. My last two GSA's had to go through a local dealer. Now I can send them in directly and track them.

Hat's off to @mikenoodle for hooking me up with a free ANA membership back when they were giving them away on the The Coin Show Radio. I was able to take advantage of that as well as a free piggyback to NGC. Thank you again Mike, Matt and the ANA.

Nice work. Eventually I'll send it in. I might wait for a couple more to lessen the blow. I'm hoping it's slow there, I have a submission in right now also.

I'm still waiting on mine as well. My first, the 1884 went in standard just before Thanksgiving. I would think it should be ready anytime now. My second, the 1882 went in Express just before Christmas. The suspense is killing me.

I don't believe that NGC attributes any of the '84CC VAM's. If you want it on the slab, it would have to go to ANACS, but I don't know if they will leave it in the OGP or not. @messydesk would probably know.

Yeah, its unfortunate that they don't attribute the R6 vams, only the R3 ones;). Ill still send it to NGC at some point purely for the grade designation. ANACS leaves it in the holder also, but I cant get past their website. Also, I could always send it to varslab but anyone looking for one of these will know its a 7A (not that Im going to sell it, this ones a keeper). NGC does designate the 1884 CC VAM 2
