I see a pre-price of the 2016 American Silver Eagles for $ 17.95 Ea. Plus shipping. For 9/10 free shipping. Considering US mint has been selling these for around $ 40.00 in the past with a container box and COC, I am wondering if there is a comparison here. I feel as a collector, I need to keep ordering the US Mint coins. If I were a bullion investor with silver at $ 13.98 I would like your opinion on whether you think the quantity of 10 would be a good price. Dave
The $18 is the UNC one. The $40 one is probably the proof. Two different things. And if Spot is at $14, I'd pay just slightly above $14 for an ounce. $18 seems steep.
I've been disappointed in prices. Silver is so low but the premiums are too high. Granted still better than $40 an ounce.
The proofs ran 50.60, I paid 41.60 for the Unc. ASE from the mint. The reason I ask is I don't think I will ever find an ASE at face silver prices. So how much over melt is a good price ?
Has the Mint stopped making the Burnished Uncirculated SAE with the West Point mintmark? I just looked on their website (first time in years) and I couldn't find it. Chris
Do you believe the price of silver is going up four bucks an ounce? Answer that question and you might answer your own question.
I looked through the complete 2016 schedule and didn't see it anywhere. Am I just blind in my old age? Chris
ASE's probably have the highest premium over spot of any government issued bullion in the world. It just isn't worth it, unless you *really* want an ASE. Try one of the many other foreign issued silver ounces, which are equally good, for a much smaller premium.
U.S. mint sells bullion silver eagles to Authorized Purchasers for $2 over the spot price of silver, then they of course are going to want to make a profit for themselves. With a spot at $14 +2 (mint premium)= You are at $16 before the retailers/authorized purchasers add whatever profit they want to make. Occasionally you can get ASE's for $2.49-$2.79 over spot when their is a supply glut and retailers are trying to reduce inventory. That is about as good as it gets.
@Tinpot , well said. Plus, I think people forget the mint has processing costs as well. I don't know the price they pay for the planchets, but I have to believe it's somewhere around PM spot pricing.
You can get the 2016 ASE at 16.51 A PIECE... depending on current price of silver at SD BULLION WEB SITE PLUS 7.77 SHIPPING.......... think starting 01/31/2016
Oops, re-checked the price and it was $20.83 (I thought I paid $19.99). Free shipping though. I pre bought it from MCM on eBay. I only want one, so the shipping you mentioned is a killer for me. You'd have to buy 2 from the seller you mentioned before the value changes. At this moment, I'm only wanting the one to go in my Dansco.
Pre-purchase sounds like a young person's game? The only thing I can justify pre-purchasing is life insurance ...
