What's going on with this Mint Mark?

Is the mint mark on this Seated Liberty Half simply PMD?

I do find it more unusual that it's on the upper part of the O where it's so close to another high relief. It could be coincidence... that the upper part of the MM was struck down at an angle without damaging the fields or anything else besides that MM. Any thoughts?

The sharp detail of the MM leads me to believe that it's not "minor" flaws caused by the die (e.g. die wear; grease-filled).

Don't forget that the mintmark was hand-punched into the working dies back then. Did you check for varieties?

Yes, can't seem to find that variety. Most of the varieties are date errors.

 

Also, the MM punch was hand made

 

Is this obtuse looking MM common?
