While surfing E-Bay, I found an N G C graded 2013-p ms68. The N G C price guide shows no price. The pop chart shows none graded. The P C G S price guide shows $1,800.00. The P C G S pop chart shows 7 graded. The seller wants $99 for his N G C graded coin. He also has several others at the same price. I am confused with these numbers which don,t make any sense. Does anyone have any comments?
I'm not a member of NGC, so can't look up the census, but I did find this. Under grade summary, they say the high grade is MS68. I also saw a few 68s on eBay, too. I'm thinking it's legit. Pop #s listed on eBay are all over the place.
I found the listing, in the bottom you see the other listings. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-P-KENN...871837?hash=item4aec4a4b5d:g:UUIAAOSwLVZVjCDd I wonder why he has some many if so few exist?
I am a member of NGC & it shows NONE graded in any population from PRAG (poor) to MS70 for a 2013-P MS Kennedy Half ERROR: I was not signed in to NGC. 26 graded at MS68 Edit: Unless these were dealer bulk submit coins & therefore not put into the NGC populations.
I snipped and posted a page (post #3, above) that shows NGC has graded 290 of them in MS grades. Will you snip and post what you see?
My guess would be that there are more Registry Collectors looking for PCGS examples of these coins. And the population is somewhat lower for PCGS examples. Both of these help make the PCGS example more expensive (although 1800 is likely way too high).
Same person (or a few people) submitted them and is looking to sell them all at once. This probably also explains the lower price relative to PCGS examples. If only one NGC MS 68 was listed, it would be easier to price it higher.
It would seem that the honest value of these 68s will land someplace above $ 100 and well under the $1800 figure. These are fine looking examples (nicer than my ms67) Perhaps I should grab one and wait and see what happens after the coins adjust to the market. Thanks for all the great feedback!
Thanks for the heads-up. I just bought this one on a best offer. Looks like a nice coin to me (obviously, seller's picture). Will have pics when it arrives. Message me if you want any information. I have bought from him before--he's a good dealer.
Sure! As with many of the later Kennedy issues, the mintages are low and the pops are also low. There are probably fewer of these high grade dates than there are registry sets to put them in. I feel confident that at this price the coin is a bargain.
I have lots of Kennedy high grade halves that are more valuable than coins I own from the early 1800s. It is all about mintages and populations. Apparently, the MS Kennedy coins from the 2000s have had low percentages of higher grade coins in MS 68 or 69--very few 70s from certain dates. This was probably due to poor strikes, or just general sloppy quality of the dies. So the ones that exist are commanding high prices, due to limited availability.
Anyone who is serious about collecting Kennedys should buy (a guide book of Franklin and Kennedy Half Dollars) by Rick Tomaska. It is the single most important reference book on Kennedys. A date by date analysis which explains in detail most questions about Kennedys. I probably would not even collect these coins if not for Rick,s book.
