Anyone have any idea of the value of this piece?

So, here's the coin in question: an 1879 Italian 5 Lire. I got this coin as a new year's gift from my brother's girlfriend and I'd like an idea on it's value. It's a cool coin indeed, even if it's worth nothing over it's silver value. image.jpg image.jpg

Well, it is rather battered, but you should be able to find a few similar sold examples on ebay.

A rough grade would be VF.

I advise checking sold listings only. Unsold are just wishful sellers till a buyer comes along.

Most of the completed listings are selling in the $30 - $40 range for midgrade examples.

I see a lot of incompleted $100+ listings but those are probably just optimistic sellers.

very cool coin. even though the grade is so-so... the sentimental value is off the charts. nice present for sure. :cat:
in your grade I would guess from $75.00-120.00 what ever someone is willing to pay. keep it for good luck.
