I think you're seeing an optical illusion. I don't see it on this coin, but there are some coin pictures on here where it looks like most of the letters are concave and I have to look away and look at a different part of the coin to see them convex. Edit: Oh, I see what you mean now. It looks like the P is inside a bowl in the second picture.
That is not a part of the clash, but part of the manufacturing process. The MintMark was a second punch that was applied to the die separately. As it was punched in, sometimes it would distort the area just around the mintmark. You see it on many coins.
Nice find, I hope to find something cool like that on a JFK. I still have about 100 bucks of them to go through.
