I think paddy is on EST, at least I remember him telling me something like that. But I mean to be safe I would wait for his word.

Yep, 24-hours in a day, right... how many longitude lines are there? They split the earth up in 24 segments divided by an hour (or 15 degrees) each, 15º x 24 is 360º and so turns the world. Here's a standard time zone map.

 

It was the only way to navigate at one time......needed a clock too.

 

And a sextant!

 

Something you could aim at the stars.......so true my friend.

Technically, you said in one place when the clock strikes 12 on new years eve, then in another you said at 12 on 1/1/16. Two different start times... hehe. When it strikes 12 on new years eve it is the start of new years eve.
