Looks like it may be a DDO, the split on the top of the two doesn't really look like like MD, more like DDO to me.

I see the split as well but I'm more leaning towards ding vs DDO. I mean, the numbers are all about the right size for a normal strike, just something strange happened to the 2.

look at the top curve of the 2.

now look to the left bottom of the 2's curve at the start

    Possible DDO

The strange part is that there is nothing on the bottom of the 2.

Take away the bottom part of the split and what is left over is too thin. It was hit by something.

OK, gotcha. I was thinking those anomalies might have been caused by the reflection of light off of the '2'.

I edited the picture and covered up the bottom part of the split. Now the top looks too thin to me. 14ddonew.jpg

There are three DDO's for 2014. Here are a few pics. 1 2014 ddo 2.jpg 1 2014 ddo 3.jpg 1 2014 ddo.jpg But that does not mean something new has not been reported yet.

I think it has something to do with the slash at the 1 & 4 which should be rounded. But yeah, doubled die is taking on a whole new meaning lately. These three are all listed on John Wexler's site.

You're almost certainly correct. The image looks, imo, to have been taken using some sort of USB "microscope" (or the like) and are notorious for producing images with the appearance of doubling.
