On your picture look an the loops of the 8's first, notice how the inside loop on the bottom is small and round and not long and oval compared to the picture Kirk posted. Then look at the placement and thickness of the sevens compared to the picture.
A comparison of the surfaces (to Kirk's) coin should be telling as well. I do hope this is something the OP stumbled upon, and not purchased as genuine. I too would like to see photos of the reverse.
I believe the OPs coin is cast. There are several marks that look like casting bubbles on the obverse. Does the coin have edges that look normal and smooth, or does it appear sort of rough?
Nothing about this specimen is correct ,the date is a dead give away. The color around the date looks like a chemical use such as Flux to solder to flow. The 7 ' s are incorrect in size and style.
Thanks for the lesson today KOINJESTER you guys are all over it... Its good to have such a resource.... it just amazes me how you all know so much and I am jealous cause it will take years to accumulate such knowledge.. YOU KNOW SIXTH GRADE WAS THE BEST THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE........
With the full understanding that you're in a much better position to examine the "coin", the "surface bumps" are clearly not anomalies caused by your dyno lite, but are, unfortunately, on the "coin" itself. There is simply far too much wrong with it to have even the remotest chance of being genuine. If you still doubt what you're being told, please look up, in particular, the reverse diagnostics and compare for yourself. Only one reverse die was used for business strikes, and all show a characteristic not present on your "example", which is weakness, particularly on the lower N in ONE, but also the upper left of the N in CENT. It certainly is not a circulated proof, so hopefully this added to all the other evidence already presented, will help convince you. I obviously have no idea of how you acquired the "coin", but if purchased as a genuine example, you would be wise to do whatever is necessary to try to get your money back as soon as possible. Otherwise, and if you've no real investment into it, chalk it up to a learning experience. Either way, I do wish things had turned out better for you, and welcome to the forum.
