I came across this penny what do you guys think is this natural tarnish of bronze? i thought it turned kind of greenish but i dont know much about these, or did someone use some sort of chemical to alter it. any info would be great. thanks
To me, it looks plated or coated in something. Try to crop your photos in the future to make them bigger for us to see easier. PhotoScape is a great program for this and is free to download.
if it helps its the light that gives it that goldish look but its actually loooks steel in sunlight. i got adobe Photoshop so i can crop that way thanks for suggestion
I need to see closer ups to see if it's plating, toning, or chemically altered. Either way, I can almost 100% assure you it's not a steel cent, but the best way to be sure is to weigh it and also put a magnet to it. Is it magnetic? If not, there's no steel.
i croped them better and with better what they look like in sun light there def not steels but still interested in how they became to loook so "steel" like natural? chemical?
Oh, 67. I was close. Very nice car! I was out your way 30 or 40 years ago. I took a VW to the Orange County raceway for the annual "Bug-In" That was probably before your time. Have you ever heard of it? I wonder if they still have that out there? Sorry to mess-up your thread with this!
nah pamona and porsche are big out here now so there are a ton of shows out here almost every weekend. pamona is by far the biggest u can get just about every part for every vintage car. tons of walking though
my dad collects 356 got a quite a bit so we like to mess with the old german flat 4 and they are appreciating like crazy right now. here ill even show u one we just got done
i wouldnt mine a 914-6 myself but almost impossible to find in CA quality (rust wise) last post regarding cars hahah u can pm if u want i got pics of some of our cars
So.. What does that mean? That it is not steel. We gave the explanation in earlier threads That weight is way off and impossible for a Cent. What are you using to weigh it?
Middle school science project probably. I have many plated cents most of which are packed deep in a box in the dark of the closet. I did just find one though going thru a bag I’ve had for years. These things go in waves so I’m sure I’ll find more. Make this cent the start of your plated cent collection. Here’s the one I found last week the color is more silver in hand, bad lighting. Reed.
