No... it's just a difference in the color/tone of the coin. If you Google "cent clash overlay" and click "images", you'll find photos that should help to familiarize you with what clashes will look like.
Thanks - but - being so neat and square corners I thought maybe a piece of tape was there and taken away years ago then cleaned. So I thought I would post it here to see if it was a die clash because the line thru the R in LIBERTY looked cut into. Maybe just my eyes. I will be checking out "Cent Clash Overlay" on Google.
I could only speculate as to what caused it, but a clash will exactly match an element of the (in this case) reverse design; while somewhat similar, I suppose, due to the boxiness, this "anomaly" doesn't. There's certainly no harm in asking.
I agree with your assessment about tape. Die clashes are a little more obvious as they show a fair amount of the design of the opposite side of the coin.
